Alaska - National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP)

This section explains about the eligibility criteria of one who wants to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in Alaska.

Eligibility for Employment as a CNA

In order to be a CNA in Alaska, you must have been issued a CNA certification by the Alaska State Board of Nursing.

Eligibility for NNAAP® Testing

As a test candidate, you will be categorized into one of six eligibilities or categories.

Note: All candidates applying to take the NNAAP® Examination in Alaska must complete the following documentation prior to approval of the online testing application. 

You must complete Form 08-4069 (Certified Nurse Aide by Examination Application) or Form 08-4365 (Reinstatement of Nurse Aide Certification Application) depending on which applies to you.

Eligibility Route

E1 – New Nurse Aide

Applicants who have completed a state approved training program within two (2) years of course completion date with a minimum of 140 hours of training that includes a minimum of 60 hours of classroom instruction and 80 hours of clinical/skills.

E2- Reinstatement

Applicants who did not work as a CNA during the renewal period and/or did not complete the required continuing education hours and now need to retake the CNA competency evaluation.

E3- Equivalency Training

Applicants who have completed at least one year of nursing education, including both clinical and classroom instruction in nursing fundamentals, within the two years preceding the submission date of their application, from a nursing school approved by a US state or territory, or a Canadian province or territory, are eligible.

E4- Military Training

Applicants with successful completion, not earlier than five years immediately before the date of the completed application, of a United States corpsman or medic training program and service in the United States military forces as a corpsman or medic not earlier than five years immediately before the date of application.

Out of Country

Applicants with successful completion of a nursing training program in a foreign country other than Canada. Applicants must submit transcripts accompanied by certified English translations if the original documents are not in English.

Current or Expired Nursing License

Applicants with a current or lapsed nursing license issued by a state or territory of the United States or a province or territory of Canada.
